J. M. Early House. Built 1893 by businessman and poet John M. Early (1849-1919) for his wife, Alice; sons, Junius and Buck; and daughter, Alice. Doing his own carpentry, Early styled this after his Georgia boyhood home, using finest heart pine. Core of plan: 2-story, 4-room house with wide halls. Kitchen was separate, other rooms were added later. Among fine details are floor-length windows, ornate brass hardware, handmade doors, cherry wood stairway.
