William Bowman blue plaque

Sir William Bowman 1816-1892 Ophthalmic surgeon and anatomist lived here

  • St Anthony’s School, Ivy House, 94-96 North End Road, Golders Green, London
The plaque is a surface mounted ceramic model introduced in September 2017, intended for applications where due to nature of the fabric of the structure, a standard roundel - which is embedded in brickwork to a depth of approximately two inches - would be unsuitable. Formerly in these circumstances, an inferior enamelled steel version would have been employed. Curiously, the same structure has been marked since the 1950s with a Hendon Corporation commemorative plaque to Anna Pavlova which appears very much to be of the traditional embedded type.
