Margaret Rumer Godden OBE 1907-1998 Prolific author of fiction and non-fiction. Nine of her works were made into films, including Black Narcissus (1947) and The River (Jean Renoir, 1951). She won a Whitbread Award in 1972 for The Diddakoi.
