English translation: "On December 4, 1905, the distinguished artist Joaquín Martínez de la Vega died in this house. The Malaga City Council dedicates this tribute to his memory. Replaced: Ateneo de Málaga, 25-02-1970."

The original plaque was installed a few years after the artist's death, but was lost after a strong storm in January 1958, shattering when it fell on the pavement and suffering damages that made its reconstruction impossible. It was replaced by the Ateneo de Málaga in 1970 as a result of the rehabilitation of the building where it is located, the Parador de San Rafael, headquarters of the current office of Andalusian Tourism.
