Le Château-Vieux Edifié à partir du 11 s. par les vicomtes de Labourd, cette forteresse médiévale s'appuie sur trois tours de l'enceinte romaine puissamment renforcées. Elle prend le nom de Château-Vieux à la fin du 15º s. après la construction d'un nouveau château dans le quartier du Petit-Bayonne. Le Château-Vieux est très remanié au 17º s.: démolition de la Tour Floripès, imposant donjon central, sur les ordres de Vauban, et ajout d'une avant-cour fortifiée. Siège des autorités militaires de la ville depuis son origine, il est encore aujourd'hui propriété de l'Armée.

English translation: "Le Château-Vieux Built from the 11th century by the Viscounts of Labourd, this medieval fortress is based on three heavily reinforced towers of the Roman enclosure. It took the name of Château-Vieux at the end of the 15th century after the construction of a new castle in the Petit-Bayonne district.
