The Band Shell Modeled after the Ford Band Shell from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, the Swan City Park Band Shell debuted in 1934. The shell's interior featured 780 colored lights. In front, created by local engineer Orrin Hofferbert, a multicolored dancing waters effect raised it high into the air in varied formations, all in time to the playing music. Once a week during the summer, the band shell hosted musical groups of all sizes and genres. Beginning in 1942, two annual concerts delighted Beaver Dam citizens. Indian Night featured recitals by Native Americans from Wisconsin Dells and Circus Night saw professional acts from Baraboo perform as 10,000 people squeezed into the park. Another popular event was Movie Night when the latest family films were projected upon the band shell to the amusement of children and adults alike. The Swan City Park Band Shell is equipped with bench seating to accommodate 3,000 people. Dedicated to Our Community The Women's Affiliate of Beaver Dam
