no subject all or unphotographedThe Great Fire of Nantwich Quater-Centenary 1583-4. On 10th, December 1583 a fire started near this spot and burned for 20 days, destroying almost all buildings in the town. Nantwich was rebuilt during 1584 with the help of Queen Elizabeth I, who donated money, and timber from the royal forests of Delamere. This plaque was unveiled by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester 20th, September 1984.
