Rear Admiral Basil Charles Godfrey Place, VC, CB, CVO, DSC (19 July 1921 – 27 December 1994), known as Godfrey Place, was an officer in the Royal Navy and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Lieutenant Basil Charles Godfrey Place VC DSC Royal Navy. Awarded the VC whilst in command of HM Submarine X7 for a daring & successful attack on the 22nd September 1943 on the German Battleship Tirpitz achored in Kaafjord, North Norway. Place penetrated the fifty miles into a heavily protected fjord, evaded a minefield, anti submarine nets & patrols & laid his explosive charges beneath the target. His courage, endurance & contempt for danger in the face of the enemy were supreme. He subsequently had a distinguished career in the Fleet Air Arm retiring as a Rear Admiral.
