Wilson Shipbuilding Family This plaque commemorates the historical significance of the Wilson boat building family. Wooden boat building was a significant industry for the Huon Valley and it was on this site that a number of large vessels were constructed. In 1898 Mr John Wilson established a shipbuilding yard here at Robley's Point. In 1912 John Wilson passed away and the boat building profession was in turn carried on by his eldest son Walter, with the assistance of his brothers. The family business continued to operate here until 1946. It was the wish of the late Walter Wilson for this site to be developed as a public picnic area that could be enjoyed by all.
