Near this site, between Nobbys (Whibayganba) and Fort Scratchley (Tahlbihn) Governor Lachlan Macquarie Esquire laid the foundation stone for Macquarie Pier on 5 August 1818 at 4 PM Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO Governor of New South Wales unveiled this plaque on the 4 August 2010 at 4 PM. The University of Newcastle's Coal River Working Party acknowledges that both events took place here at Muloobinba, within the traditional lands of the Awabakal people.
