Ce bâtiment de la fin du XIIIe siècle servait occasionnellement de résidence temporaire pour les comtes de Neuchâtel tout en étant une place forte qui fermait à l'origine le comté en Ouest. Par la suite, le Château devient un lieu de justice et une prison. Au XVe siécle, Jean de Fribourg y engage d'importants travaux de réparation comme à Neuchâtel. En 1752, le Château est cédé à la ville de Boudry par le roi de Prusse, Frédéric II, puis redevient propriété cantonale en 1823. Depuis 1957, le Château est ouvert au public. Chef d'ordre de la Compagnie des Vignolants du Vignoble Neuchâtelois, il abrite aujourd'hui les nombreuses collections du plus ancien Musée de la Vigne et du Vin Suisse.
