St. Declan's Oratory With its high-pitched Gables (from which the popular name "The Beannachán), projecting side-walls and lintelled west doorway, this little church may date from the 8th century, though the upper courses of its walls and gables have been rebuilt and the doorway in the north wall is an afterthought. The slate roof was added in 1716 by Dr. Thomas Mills, Bishop of Waterford. This is the reputed burial place if St. Declan, pre-Patrician founder of Ardmore, and is one of the "Stations" on the annual pattern held on his feast day, 24 July, (Journal Royal Society Antiquaries of Ireland, 33 (1903), p366) National MOnument 131
