Dromin is an early ecclesiastical site, founded by Saint Finnian Abbot of Clonard (d.549) the incident of the copying of the Saint's manuscripts by St. Columba is said to have happened here. Dromin was burnt by the Danes in 834. No part of the present ruin can be ascribed to the first millennium. The Church was in ruin in 1539 and repaired in 1622. In 1692 the thatched church was 'out of repair'.
