John Franklin Carll (1826-1904). Pioneer petroleum geologist and engineer, Carll originated many standard oil industry practices, including accurate drilling records, correlating and mapping sub-surface reservoir rocks, and explaining the increased productivity resulting from reservoir flooding. In the 2nd Geological Survey of Pennsylvania (1875), he provided basic explanations of northwestern Pa. surface and subsurface geology. He lived and worked here from 1864 until his death.
