The Munali Pass Tradition states that it was from the summit of the hill to the west of the road that Dr. David Livingstone obtained his first view of the Kafue River on the 14th December, 1833. He crossed these hills during his great trans-Africa journey from Angola to Mozambique and the pass is named after him "Munali" (The Red One).
