Marske & Saltburn Sands were the scene of attempts on annual World Speed Records 1906-1937 organised by Leeds Motor Club and Middlesborough Motor Club. 1924 Sir Malcolm Campbell set a record for cars at 144.32 miles per hour. 1928 Ron Storey set a record for motorcycles at 122.91 miles per hour
