Le 19 août 1944 dans l'abri souterrain de cet immeuble du service des égouts de la Ville de Paris le Colonel Rol-Tanguy chef des F.F.I. de l'Île de France installa son État-Major. De ce PC ont été donnés les ordres d'opérations de l'insurrection pariesienne victorieuse (19 au 25 aoüt) décidée par le Comité Parisien de la Libération et le Conseil National de la Résistance
