In this building Norris Brothers designed the famous 'Bluebird CN7' in which Donald Campbell CBE took the World Land Speed Record to 403.1 mph in 1964, and in 1967 bravely gave his life attempting the World Water Speed Record in Norris Brothers' 'Bluebird K7'. This plaque marks the 50th anniversary of that tragic, but epic event.
This plaque commemorates the Norris Brothers (Kenneth, Lewis and Eric - the accountant ) who designed the late famous Donald Campbell's "Bluebird car (CN7)". They established their Church Walk (formerly Church Road),Burgess Hill, W Sx. office, on the first floor of the former Mid Sussex Building Society's detached building in 1952, and opened a further office in Burrell Road Haywards Heath, West Sussex, where they went on to design the "Hydroplane K 7", in which Donald Campbell gave his life attempting the World Water Speed Record, on 4th. January 1967, and now remembering the 50th anniversary.
