To commemorate Trustees, Staff and Volunteers who gave their time and expertise in order to establish a museum at Ellesmere Port. The museum was founded solely by volunteers who were known as the North Western Museum of Inland Navigation (NWMIN). This became known as the Boat Museum Society (BMS) which, continued to support the museum. The society is now the Waterways Museum Society which continues to support the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port.
