The Gateshead Dispensary 1832-1946 Founded after the outbreak of cholera in 1831 to assist in preserving the public health and make medicine available to the poor. The Dispensary occupied this house 1855-1946.
A small black rectangular plaque below the main plaque is inscribed "This plaque was unveiled on the 12th October 1982 in the 150th anniversary year of the Charity by the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor R. Rudge J.P. to mark its achievement for Gateshead."
