Sigmund Freud 1856-1939 founder of Psychoanalysis lived here in 1938-1939
The London County Council first installed a plaque to commemorate Sigmund Freud at 20 Maresfield Gardens in 1956, which was ceremonially unveiled by his daughter Anna, on the 100th anniversary of his birth. A hitch with the usual suppliers meant that the plaque erected was of enamelled steel. This was replaced with a ceramic version, bearing the name of English Heritage, but with the wording otherwise identical to the original, in 2002 - a plaque to commemorate Anna being installed at the same time.
