Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. They rest from their labours & their works do follow them of which happy number was Ralph Skynner gent who dyed in June 1697 who left eight hundred pounds to build and endow these dwellings for the poor. Nor was his charity confined to this parish only, but other parishes did experience the same kindness which yett prevented not many large gifts of kindness to his own relations. Blessed be God for no great an example of true charity and goodness and it is but just that the thus righteous be had in everlasting remembrance. By the care of Edward Lawney, John Papworth and Edward Drapur, the Executors. This building was begun & finished in the year of our Lord 1698
