John Preston Hall, Sr.

John Preston Hall, Sr. was born August 26, 1894 in Clay County. He was a stockholder in the Bank of Green Cove Springs, was elected to the board of directors in 1926 and then chairman of the board and president in 1938. Much of his life was spent in law enforcement. He was elected sheriff of Clay County in 1929 and held that office for 36 years. He left office with no unsolved murders in his files. Hall was president of the Florida Sheriffs Association and a past member of the board of directors. He was elected treasurer of the association in 1946 and served in that capacity until his retirement. He was a founder and first treasurer of the Florida Sheriffs Boy Ranch at Live Oak, established in 1957 to provide a home for needy boys. Hall was named to the administrative board of the Florida Sheriffs Bureau, created by the Florida Legislature at the request of the Florida Sheriffs Association. John Preston Hall, Sr. died March 24, 1970.
