Beech Cottage, 12 High Street. Built c.1708 and demolished in 1979. Home to 'atomic spy' Alan Nunn May in the 1950s, the site later gave way to Budgens' supermarket car park.

Barrack Yard. Once the coaching yard of The Cross Keys inn, later a barracks for Cromwell's soldiers during the English Civil War; 18 families lived here, where St Peter's Court is now.

The old workhouse. Pictured in the 1920's, before conversion to shops. It was a refuge for the homeless, but conditions were harsh to deter scroungers. The gas lamp was moved to the church porch when the building was demolished.

Cordons, the old rectory. Demolished to make way for the car park. Mr Churton Walker occupied it in 1928 and reported stones in his garden from the 15C. medieval church once on the site. The old fish pond is in the foreground with the weir into The Misbourne.

Hill Farm - now demolished. A 14th century, C-shaped open hall house, arguably one of the most important buildings in our village. One of the barns was moved to The Chiltern Open Air Museum for preservation.
