Thomas Gainsborough 1727-1788 artist lived here
The (Royal) Society of Arts erected a tablet to commemorate Gainsborough at No.80 Pall Mall in 1881. By the mid 20th century it had faded to the point of illegibility and was replaced in 1951 with this LCC plaque, unveiled by the painter Sir Alfred Munnings.
