W. H. Smith 1825-1891 bookseller and statesman lived here
This plaque was originally erected by the London County Council at 3 Grosvenor Place, Westminster in 1961. That building was redeveloped in 1964, the plaque being removed and re-erected at No.12 (formerly No.1) Hyde Park Street.
