Harriot Mellon 1777-1837 Famous actress, who came from a family of Irish strolling players, married banker Thomas Coutts, then Duke of St Albans and built up the Holly Lodge estate. She defied convention by bequeathing her wealth to her step-granddaughter Angela (Burdett-Coutts).
