Sir Harry Ricardo's first engine This four-stroke stratified charge engine, designed by Sir Harry at the age of 17, was built in 1903 and used for pumping water at his family home. Its success encouraged Sir Harry to a lifetime of engine design and development. President of IMechE in 1944, his thoughts and inventions still contribute to the success of Ricardo today.

To commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the first flight from Shoreham 10th July 1910 by Harold Piffard on his self-built "HummingBird" pusher biplane. This plaque was unveiled by the Chairman of Brighton, Hove and Worthing joint municipal airport committee, Councillor R.D.F. Ireland, at the Shoreham air show 13th July 1980.

This was the family home of Wing Commander James Nicolson VC, DFC who, during an engagement with the enemy near Southampton in 1940, was wounded and when about to abandon his aircraft, hit by cannon shells and on fire, he sighted and shot down an enemy fighter aircraft and as a result of staying in his burning plane suffered burns to face, neck, hands and legs. 1917 - 1945
