This plaque was erected in February 1998 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Felix Road Adventure Playground established for the children of Easton, Bristol. The site was once the north coalyard of the former Easton Colliery, which stood here 1824-1912, and was later used as a stoneyard for Cowlins Ltd (1913-1963)

In 1972 he came to Easton as a refugee and in 1978 created the famous family owned Bristol Sweet Mart, today one of Easton's most popular specialist food outlets. Hew was well known for his generosity and modesty to all.

A Pioneer of the Bristol and District Co-op Movement, founded at 38 Croydon St and opened at 22 Houlton Street in 1884. He set up the "Shakespeare Boot Mart" at 15 Croydon Street in 1887. A Bootcutter, on low income, who with Co-operative and Socialist Principles, fought for the rights of Working-Class people.
