In Memory of Irish Patriots Captain Seán Connolly of the Irish Citizen Army lived here at No 58 Gloucester Street. Seán was killed in action on Easter Monday 1916 on the roof of City Hall by a British Army sniper. Brigadier Dick McKee and Vice-Brigadier Peadar Clancy Irish Republican Army It was from the house that stood here, 36 Gloucester Street, that Brigadier Dick McKee and Vice-Brigadier Peadar Clancy, Dublin Brigade, Irish Republican Army (IRA) were arrested along with the householder, Sean Fitzpatrick by the British Army and Black and Tans in the early hours of November 21st 1920. Both McKee and Clancy were later cruelly tortured and murdered along with IRA Volunteer Conor Clune in the Guard Room of Dublin Castle as a reprisal after IRA units smashed the elite spy network of British Intelligence during the War of Independence on Sunday November 21st 1920.
