This tablet erected 1937 marks the last site of the head of the quay pipe conduit which for many years was one of the principal sources of water supply for the inhabitants of the city and for ships in the harbour. The springs at Ashley Down supplying this conduit before becoming the property of the commonality of the city in 1391, belonged to the friars of the Order of Preachers.

Princess Caraboo Real name Mary Wilcocks 1791-1864 Arrived in Almondsbury on April 3rd 1817 and successfully passed herself off as Princess Caraboo from Javasu (a non-existent island) from which she claimed to have been kidnapped by pirates. Exposed ten weeks later, Mary emigrated to America returning to London 1824 and subsequently Bedminster where she became a leech dealer. From 1851 to the end of her life she lived at No 11 Princess Street.

Bristol Royal Blind Asylum or School of Industry for the Blind 1793-1968 Originally situated in the centre of Bristol, it was one of the oldest institutions for the blind in the world and accepted pupils from all over the country. Work started on the new school on this site in 1909 and it opened in 1911. Declining numbers led to the closure of the school in 1968 and the building was demolished in 1971.

The Clifton Spa Pump Room opened 1st August 1894 architect Philip Munro (1843-1911). Built by Sir George Newnes at the request of the Society of Merchant Venturers as a place to take the healing waters and listen to lunch-time concerts.

The Guild of British Mariners founded in 1445 maintained a priest and twelve poor seamen. Their Chapel of St. Clement stood on this site. In 1553 the disused chapel became the Hall of the Society of Merchant Venturers. The Hall was rebuilt 1719. In 1940 it was destroyed by enemy action.

This Bridge was designed in 1830 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806 - 1859) Construction began in 1836 but was interrupted in 1834 through the lack of funds. It was not until 1864 five years after Brunel's death that the bridge was completed as a monument to his fame, the chains used being those from the Hungerford Bridge designed and erected by him in 1843.
